Safe Boating Courses

The California Department of Boating and Waterways (DBW) recommends taking a boating safety class from one of the following sources:
- Aqua Centers, visit their Web site for local numbers
- U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, (800) 869-SAIL (7245)
- U.S. Power Squadrons, (800) SEA-SKILL (732-7545)
The DBW also offers a home study guide, titled "California Boating Safety Course". It is unlawful to operate a vessel while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Under California State law, a person with a blood alcohol level of .08% or greater is considered to be under the influence.
